Link an object to an NFC tag

How to link a Log+Key NFC tag to an object — from the tag page or in the object form — so that a scan opens the object directly.

An NFC tag is the fastest route to an object: hold the tag against your smartphone and Log+Key opens the object page directly. For that, the tag must be assigned to exactly one object. This page shows both ways to get there.

Prerequisites

Route 1: From the tag page

  1. Open the tag: scan it with your smartphone or open its URL in the browser (https://logkey.app/tag/<hardware ID>). A free tag shows its detail page with the status Free. Tags you have opened before are also listed under Tags in the navigation.
  2. Click Link object. The Link tag to object dialog lists your objects; the search field helps you find the right one quickly.
  1. Select the object and confirm with Assign. Assign and edit object takes you straight to the object’s edit form, for example to add a photo right away.

The tag now has the status Tag assigned and shows the linked object. From now on, every scan opens this object.

If the object doesn’t exist yet, choose Create and link new object in the dialog — the object form opens with the tag already filled in, see Create your first object.

Route 2: In the object form

When creating or editing an object you’ll find the Linked tag field. Clicking No tag assigned opens the list of all free tags in your organisation, identified by their hardware ID. Select the tag and save the object with Create or Save.

Keeping track

Under Tags you see every tag in your organisation with its status (Free, Tag assigned, User assigned), label, linked object or user and hardware ID. You set a Label via Edit on the tag page — handy when the hardware ID alone says nothing.

What if the tag is already linked?

A tag always belongs to exactly one object or one user. If it is already taken, first remove the existing link — see Remove an NFC tag link — or transfer it directly to another object: Re-link an NFC tag.

On a smartphone everything works the same way: the scan opens the same tag page as on a computer, just in the mobile view. You don’t need a separate app for this.
