Log+Key runs directly in the browser — on a computer just as on a smartphone. No installation is required. An admin in your organisation creates your access; Adding users explains how.
First sign-in
Two cases:
- Your organisation is new to Log+Key. You register with your email address at log-key.de/jetzt-starten and receive an email through which you set your personal details, your password and your PIN.
- You join an existing organisation. An admin creates your user. With browser access you automatically receive an email with a link to set your password; the link is valid for seven days.
After that, sign in as described below.
Signing in via the browser
- Open logkey.app.
- Enter your Email address and your Password.
- Confirm with Log in.
After signing in, the navigation sits on the left. As a User you see Objects, History, Inventory and Help & Support; Admins additionally see Users, Contacts, Types, Locations, Tags and Settings (see Setting user roles).
Clicking your name at the bottom left opens the profile menu with Language, Profile and Log out. Under Language you switch between German and English — the setting applies to you only and takes effect immediately.
Forgotten your password?
There is no reset link on the sign-in page. Ask an admin in your organisation: they open your user and choose More actions → Reset password. You then receive a link at the email address on file, which lets you set a new password. This link is valid for seven days as well.
Signing in at the terminal
The terminal has its own simplified interface for taking out and returning objects quickly. You don’t sign in there with an email address and password, but with your name and your four-digit PIN:
- The start screen lists everyone with terminal access, grouped alphabetically. Tap your name — with many entries, the Search users field at the top helps.
- In the Enter PIN dialog, type your four digits. The terminal checks the PIN after the fourth digit — there is no confirm button. Cancel takes you back to the list.
With a login tag (see Adding users) you need neither name nor PIN: hold the tag to the NFC reader on the front of the terminal and you are signed in straight away. After a configurable period of inactivity, the terminal signs you out automatically; an admin sets that period in the terminal section of the settings.
Prerequisite: your admin has enabled terminal access (Can log in at the terminal) on your user and generated a one-time PIN for terminal access for you. You sign in with that one-time PIN the first time and set your personal PIN right afterwards — from then on only that one applies.
What comes after signing in — the overview, taking out and returning — is covered in Using the terminal day to day.
Two PINs, two purposes
Log+Key has two PINs that are easy to confuse:
- One-time PIN for terminal access — generated by your admin when creating your user (switch Generate one-time PIN for terminal access; the PIN appears right in the form) or later via More actions → Generate one-time PIN on your user detail page. The admin passes it on to you in person. It is only used for the first sign-in at the terminal, not for confirmations in the web app.
- Personal PIN — you set it at your first terminal sign-in, or in the web app under Profile → Change PIN (four digits). It is one and the same PIN: you use it to sign in at the terminal and to confirm actions in the web app, for example taking out an object via Confirm with PIN. Change it in one place and the new PIN applies everywhere.
